Families are struggling to stay in Vista because it's too expensive — housing, childcare, utilies, groceries, all of it. You shouldn't have to work more than one job just to stay in this city. I want to make Vista a place where you can afford to raise your kids, walk safely to a park, and feel good about staying here long-term.
I will work to make childcare more accessible and affordable by expanding the supply of childcare centers and supporting the people who provide it. Ensure neighborhood services like parks, streets, and libraries are consistently funded and well maintained.
Work alongside Vista Unified to champion strong, well-resourced, schools where teachers, classified and unclassified employees can afford to live in the city where they work.
Every neighborhood in Vista deserves well-maintained roads, complete sidewalks, streetlights, and reliable city services. I will invest in road repair, expand solar street lighting, complete sidewalks, improve transit, and build better bike lanes to ensure that every part of the city is safe and connected. These improvements will make it easier and more reliable to get around Vista. I will prioritize pedestrian and biker safety in our neighborhoods and ensure that our public spaces and services are accessible to all.
I also support Vista investing in a community-based approach to reducing crime, with a focus on homeless outreach, bolstering youth-focused programs, afterschool programs, and anti-violence programs to keep our neighborhoods safe and help keep people out of jail.
Vista needs both State and County support in designing and implementing comprehensive crime prevention programs that expand across North County.
I will work to make developing these programs easier and will support counties and cities that invest in noncarceral approaches to crime prevention. While making sure we do everything possible to keep people who have served their sentence from returning to jail. By investing in reentry programs and wraparound services and housing support, we can make sure people who leave prison can stay out.
Most people who lose their housing aren't strangers, they are our neighbors. We need real solutions to our homelessness crisis. Getting people housed and off the streets with proper treatment and support makes our neighborhoods safer and healthier for everyone.
I'll work to significantly expand permanent supportive housing, interim housing, and sober housing options, while improving placement, so people are not left cycling between the streets, emergency rooms, and jail.
I will work to address the root causes of homelessness by expanding affordable housing, protecting tenants from displacement, and investing in mental health and substance abuse treatment. While working to create and expand city-supported clinics and treatment programs to fill gaps left by any federal cuts.
Increase accountability and measurable outcomes by setting transparent benchmarks for shelter and housing placements, retention rates, and reductions in unsheltered homelessness, and aligning funding with programs that deliver results.
Vista's parks, trails, and open spaces are some of the best things about living here, and they're worth protecting. I'll fight against the pollution, over-development, and illegal dumping that threaten them. Not every neighborhood has a park within walking distance, and that needs to change.
I will push for more funding for parks, work with our schools to open their grounds for free public recreation after hours, plant thousands of trees in neighborhoods with the least shade, and install better bus shelters where riders need them most. Expand public transit options and add solar panels to publicly owned buildings to decrease carbon emissions and provide Vista residents with safe sources of renewable energy.
As Vista grows, I will ensure that new developments include green spaces and that the city invests in infrastructure built to withstand rising temperatures and increased stormwater. A growing city should also be a greener one.
We need truly affordable housing. Half of Vista residents are renters, while the median home price is over $850,000. If we don't build enough housing, prices will continue to rise and push out workers, families, and seniors. I will work to prioritize more affordable housing for low and middle-income families, workforce housing for teachers and first responders, and veterans and senior housing.
I support building more housing, faster, with higher inclusionary housing requirements, strengthening renter protections, holding bad landlords who violate the law accountable, ensuring that development decisions are clear and transparent, and preventing displacement to keep families from getting priced out of their homes. I'll work to ban private equity firms from buying up single family homes in Vista, so owning a home remains possible for working families.
If it takes years to approve housing, costs increase. We need to act faster and more responsibly, by streamline the permitting process and enforce clear timelines, increasing predictability in the process to reduce costs and accelerate home construction.
The cost of living keeps going up while paychecks haven't kept pace. Too many Vista families are working multiple jobs and still falling behind. Workers and small businesses aren't on opposite sides — they both make this city run. When workers have good stable jobs and local businesses can grow, everyone benefits. When workers can organize, they win higher wages and stronger benefits.
I work to fight for good jobs with local hiring, prevailing wages, and strong workforce standards, and partner with our local community colleges to support career technical education and vocational and career track programs to help underserved communities gain access to stable and long-term jobs.
I'll require that public-funded construction projects , uphold high labor standards, hire workers with union wages and benefits built into every contract, and expand apprenticeships pathways so more residents can enter the skilled trades, while ensuring Community Benefits Agreements and Project Labor Agreements are implemented.
I'll make it easier to open a small business here, and make sure new development includes space for local shops — not just chains. Fill vacant storefronts with businesses that strengthen neighborhoods.
I understand the importance of leveraging Vista’s arts and culture scene to stimulate the economy and build community. I will advocate for investments in artists, museums, theaters, and nightlife venues that contribute to the city's cultural life. While working to expand our entertainment zones that bring people together and energize commercial corridors.
I will promote Vista as a destination for arts, culture, and local community experiences by highlighting signature events and businesses.
Vista residents pay among the highest electric rates, from SDG&E, in the country, almost two and a half times the national average. Even worse, the rates are proposed to rise each year. Electricity is a basic necessity, not a luxury.
A not-for-profit, publicly-owned utility can deliver significantly lower rates, promote green energy production, and prioritize a public good over monopoly profits.
No one in Vista should live in fear of going to work, dropping their kids off at school, or calling the sheriff for help. I’ll work to keep ICE off our streets. I will ensure that ICE is not present in public facilities without a warrant and that the sheriff's department does not collaborate with ICE for immigration enforcement. I refuse to let Vista’s resources be used to target residents, and I demand transparency, due process rights, and protection for community safe spaces.
While I understand that Vista cannot obstruct ICE from enforcing immigration laws, we cannot stand by while this abuse unfolds. We need proactive policies to ensure that peaceful protesters are not abused and that residents without criminal records are not detained unlawfully and violently. When abuses occur, the abusers must be held accountable, regardless of the letters on their vest.
Queer, trans and nonbinary people in America are facing a hostile new reality under Donald Trump's administration. At the same time, our cost of living crisis hits the LGBTQ+ community particularly hard, with higher rates of unemployment and homelessness.
If elected, I will support our LGBTQ+ communities by expanding and protecting gender-affirming care, making Vista an LGBTQ+ sanctuary city, and hiring new city staffers dedicated to uplifting our LGBTQ+ residents along with everyone else.
